DRACLOAK - The Deceptive Demishade

CLASS: BIOCONSTRUCT

Like the mysterious Shades who toil in Mortasheen city's inner workings, the Demishades consist mostly of a crystalloid skeleton and organs suspended in an energy-absorbing fluid matrix, resembling beings of pitch darkness outside of their protective biofiber skins.

BIOLOGY:

Supplementing its diet of heat and light with fresh blood drawn through its probing tentacles, the Dracloak manipulates surrounding light to create areas of pitch darkness, blindingly psychedelic flashes or even life-like holograms as it stalks its prey. Even where optical illusions fail, the monster generates no heat of its own, lacks any odor and can hold itself absolutely still to the microscopic level, rendering it virtually undetectable to other common sensory systems. A soft, malleable and stretchy body further enhances the Dracloak's ability to hide virtually anywhere and disguise its true form.

BEHAVIOR:

The Dracloak is a cryptic being of many thoughts and few words, preferring isolated research and extensive, silent contemplation above any other activity. It often seeks to seclude itself as far from other creatures as possible, such as in the depths of the sea or even, through various means, the void of orbit, breaking solitude only when stricken by its hunger for blood.

APPLIANCE:

This master of deception is adept at espionage of every sort, its illusions advanced enough that it can fold itself into the shape of myriad other monsters and complete the disguise with a holographic "skin." It is hypothesized that the Dracloak had a supervisory role in the original city of Mortasheen. Though replicable by modern means, Demishades seem to have originated, like true Shades, from the metropolis itself.

TACTICAL MECHANISMS:

DEAD SILENCE: a Dracloak has no odor and can only be heard or felt when it wishes to be.

ILLUSION: the Dracloak can generate images from the surrounding light, often to disguise itself as some other object or being.

CONTORTION: the monster can physically warp itself into many possible shapes.
