Demikids
Atlus corporation's entry into the genre of collectible pet monsters, Demikids is available for Gameboy Advance in two versions - Light or Dark - with very different storylines. Dark version focuses more on demonic monsters, while the light version has a few more angels. Between the two versions there are over 360 actual monsters, and the vast majority of them are based on actual demons, angels, gods, and spirits from virtually every major mythology known to man. From greek dieties to youkai monsters, everyone is represented! With so many sprites, this section will be split into two pages. At the bottom of each page, I'll be pointing out some of the more obscure or interesting monster origins.

Mythological Origins
Some monsters in "Demikids" are clearly original creations, and others are just plain obvious (do I really have to explain "Centaur" or "Thor?") but many stem from more unusual or little-known myths and legends. Here are just a few noteable origins. More will be added from time to time:

Bludkap - based on "Red Cap" of scottish mythology. Among the most violent and evil of fairy-folk, these solitary creatures resembled little, old men, often hunched and emaciated, but posessed incredible strength. They dyed their hats in the blood of human victims, hence the name.

Cait Sith - another scottish myth (yes, a scottish myth, you fanboys, not just an FFVII character) and properly pronounced "ket shee". A cat spirit the size of a large dog.

Dullahan - hailing from ireland, the Dullahan is a terrifying headless horseman and a harbinger of death. It was said to carry its decaying head under one arm, and rode a headless horse who's true head was up to six yards longer than its body (most sources seem unclear as to where the horse's head was kept. Perhaps it flew alongside as the creature ran?). It would knock on the doors of those who were soon to die, and splash them with a bucket of blood. Demikid's Dullahan appears to be female, and decidedly less threatening than her real-world counterpart.

Goblin - the "goblin" in Demikids is actually based specifically on the Tengu. These japanese mountain goblins come in several forms, of which bird Tengu are the most popular.

Goku - the monkey king of japanese myth. He wields a metal pole that can extend to any length, and rides a floating cloud. Yes, fanboys, this is from ancient mythology, not
Dragonball.

Hanuman - the wise but mischievious monkey god of India. His name means "broken jaw".

Karon - despite the spelling, this is the Greek Charon; ferryman of the river styx.
