Ghoul Patrol
Ghoul Patrol was marketed as a sequel to the beloved "Zombies ate my Neighbors", and though the gameplay, music, and overall style are quite similar, it was actually intended as a completely unrelated game. As "Zombies" designer Mike Ebert explains:

"What happened is they had another game that was kind of lost and struggling, so they changed it into "Ghoul Patrol" and called it a sequel to ZAMN in hopes that it would actually sell. It really never was supposed to have anything to do with Zombies Ate My Neighbors. I was shocked when I first saw it in the test department and the characters looked like the Z.A.M.N characters".

So how does this unofficially-official sequel measure up? Though reasonably fun to play with a catchy soundtrack and some cool-looking enemies, the game suffers from an obvious lack of originality, humorless weapons (rayguns, pistols...meh), a rather monotone collection of bosses, and only a few dozen stages to its name. Still, while hardly worthy of the Zombies torch, it's certainly a good game on its own.
You can still play as two different characters, Zeke and Julie. Except for name, gender, and 3-d glasses, they're exactly the same.
Drinking a magical red potion can transform you temporarily into the Grim Reaper! He cannot use items and attacks only with his scythe, but is impervious to all damage.
The Monsters
Monsters sometimes hidden in closets or cabinets where items can be found.

The Humans
These are just a few of the humans you have to rescue. There's around a dozen varieties, but they all act the same. My favorites are the geishas. The sprite on the end is what happens when a human is killed by an enemy.
The Bosses
The boss of the first world (modern) is this giant robot cop. Only his legs are actually animated much. His gun arm fires a big, blue beam, a tiny gun pops out of his shoulder to spreay bullets everywhere, and he sometimes leaps into the air to smash you.
The boss of world two (oriental) doesn't really do much. He slashes with his sword or shoots fireballs.
The ghostly pirate king (jinkies!) either shoots in multiple directions with his pistol or sends his hook hand swinging around on a chain.
World four is a medeival castle, and you'll ultimately face this giant, undead knight. All he does is shoot small fireballs and periodically charge at you.
The final world, hell, has only one stage (and is populated almost entirely by eyeballs and skulls, but you'll also battle Grim Reapers, like the one you can turn into!) and then you'll face the game's main villain. He leaps around the screen and sometimes shoots a pair of flaming skulls from his hands. Yeah, that's all. Neat looking demon, though!
You'll see this gorgeous face when you kill the final boss, just before the credits roll.
