Fern apprehensively opened the alarmingly affectionate-looking letter, hoping she did not have some secret admirer up to about when she read it, and decided that a secret admirer may have been more awkward, but also quite a bit less irritating.
Fern went through a lot to fulfill that request, and you waited several of your "years" for her to get back on track. She at least accomplished several things of importance in the process, but still...she couldn't help but make a point to deliberately crumple up this letter before discarding it.
