Bogleech.com's 2013 Horror Write-off:
" Shining Eyes "
Submitted by Lord of Rye
Twinkle twinkle sunset sky,
I must wonder how you fly,
all the way across the sky,
a hundred million shining eyes.
When the blazing sun is gone,
When the nothing shines upon,
then you see us in the light,
watching, watching all the night
you are a traveler in the dark,
in the void a tiny spark,
not knowing which way to go
you came here, for we twinkle so.
In the dying sky you creep,
and often through the curtains peep,
for you never shut your eyes,
not until the end of time
As your dim and tiny spark,
is forced to travel in the dark,
Though I know not what you are,
Go on twinkling, tiny spark
Twinkle twinkle sunset sky,
I must wonder how you fly,
all the way across the sky,
a hundred million shining eyes.
Twinkle twinkle sunset sky,
Now you must say goodbye.
Now you must say goodbye.
All across the sky,
a million shining eyes
at last they shall fall
Eyes, antenna,
a soft fall of reddish fuzz
all raining down.
Today the stars were gone.
The dying sky is the wrong color - it is too shallow, too vaporous. There should be something there, but it is missing. The reddish luster, speckled with glowing gems, is now a sickly pink, a shadow cast by a sinking light. It leaves a hole. The void shines through.
For a year, it has circled us. A great ray, a ring of flesh. A red dawn and a red dusk, calling the day and the night. It came from the void, a great beast seeking a spark. It encountered us, and it encircled us, endlessly rotating to imitate the boundary between sun and void. Some feared the end, others feared a new dawn, others fell to their knees. And it watched.
It stayed: soaking in our radiant life, our blatant calls into an empty void. It waited, until it was full. And then it left. Now we wonder: why, how? I say it is a traveler, and a watcher. It simply is, and it moves. A tiny bolt, jumping through time and space and the empty void. It came to us because we called to it.
And now it leaves, full of life and warmth. It has skipped from the radiant skin of our world , and off into the darkness.
Be well, Traveller.
