Like their larviform counterparts, imago dermestid Arthropoids feed primarily on bone, keratin and dry skin, often becoming a pest in establishments dependant upon these materials. They are, however, quieter, calmer and more timid than the often unruly and mischievious larviforma.
BASE ORGANISM: Dermestid or hide beetles are a cosmopolitan group of Coleoptera adapted to fed on the dry remains of dead animals, even feeding on the remains of other insects. They can become a major pest of carpet fibers and museum specimens, though they are also used to professionally clean bones in preparation for display.
