Mega Clefable

Pokemon Legends: ZA released in fall of 2025, and I have to say I'm a little disappointed that it didn't come with any regional forms or regional evolutions like the first Legends game. Rather, since it's set in the same region that introduced Mega Evolutions, it focuses entirely on releasing a new wave of these ephemeral, in-battle power-up forms. We actually started these reviews back when Megas were still a brand new concept, and back then, we assumed they would always remain obtainable in "core" games along with the rest of the Pokedex. We also assumed they were a "new mechanic" that would see fresh additions every generation, too...those were the days I guess!

The new wave of Megas still include a lot of really cool and interesting new designs, though I'm not sure if Clefable is among them, exactly. It gains floppy dog with tubular, black-tipped ends that kind of just look like a pair of legs with hooves, and there's a giant puffy nipple-shaped cranial growth that's probably supposed to look like a hat, but the design's central gimmick are large butterfly-like wings. Clefable is the earliest Pokedex Pokemon to be given the then-new "fairy" typing in the sixth generation, and was always fairy-themed, so I guess a Clefable with functional-size fairy wings is obvious. A little too obvious to be all that exciting, maybe?

All we know about this Mega is that it harnesses "moonlight power," just like regular Clefable, but uses this to control gravity and float around without actually needing the wings at all. Maybe the wings are actually just the organs that do this? I like that notion a bit more, like they're "solar panels" for moonlight.

Overall, the wings are cool enough if you wanted a Clefable with wings, but the body is kind of a downgrade from the base Pokemon.
