Mega Starmie
Victreebel was "funny," but Mega Starmie is a design that feels much more like an outright "joke," and is fairly divisive for it. After all, it does absolutely nothing but lengthen Starmie's two lower arms into more of a humanoid "waist" and longer "legs" it runs around on. I do like the idea of it attempting to "mimic a human," with the pokedex even questioning whether it's "trying to communicate" or "trying to supplant humanity," which plays into Staryu and Starmie's space-alien theming...but is this interesting notion enough to carry a design that only tweaks one thing? If you find it funny, the joke is probably not self-sustaining for very long. If you find it a cool idea, then you probably wish they had done more with it. If it was going to be "more humanoid," I'd have liked to see at least one more alteration or addition to the base design. Make the legs even longer, extend the other points with them, maybe give the upper point a little something to look like a "head?" I went with horn-like prongs and an additional gem for this quick scribble:
I want to like Mega Starmie for the same reasons I want to like Mega Victreebel - it's more Starmie! - and at first, I was even set to give it a 2.5 to 3, but the more I look at it, the more it feels like Starmie got robbed.
