THE BURGAMON FAMILY

BABY II: TORIKARABALLMON

Today's digimon are barely even treated like official monsters and that's probably because they were created entirely as promotional TCG cards to be given away by the fast food chain, Lotteria, but they even managed to appear in the anime, so whether they like it or not, they're a part of the canon. Torikaraballmon, a real mouthful of a name, is basically a chicken nugget baby digimon, which is adorable. I love it.

CHILD: BURGAMON

So here's Burgamon, and admittedly its artistic style doesn't fit in very well with other digimon. It really has that "cross promotional mascot" feel to it. It's said to be "shaped like a hamburger," but that's obviously not the case. It's more like some sort of fuzzy little gremlin with a hamburger-themed hat, though every digimon in this family has the unique elemental creature typing of "food."

ALTERNATE CHILD: EBIBURGAMON

This variation, appearing in another Frontier episode for a minor cameo, is both burger themed and shrimp themed. Are there...are there shrimp burgers in Japan? I'm usually all for basically any type of food in existence, but I feel like that might be too much for me. I barely like regular burgers. I don't need them to be fishy and shrimpy on top of it.

Still, I really like this one. I like the shrimpy tail and the pink tinge and the poofier burger hat.

ADULT: BURGAMON

Yeah, when Burgamon evolves it's still just called Burgamon, only now it's an adult stage with different possible clothes. It's alright and reasonably cute, but no longer looks visually like anything burger-related, and more like an onion person. Not bad, but not great. This line deserves better, really, like its own designated Perfect and Ultimate, though it can evolve further into Digitamamon or Jyagamon - an egg and a "potato" if you remember those guys.

This is just making me wish "food" had been a larger category of digimon. You could have had a sushi monster that evolves from the various aquatic digimon. A steak monster that evolves from Minotaurmon. Moldy foods for "failure" evolutions, cooking appliance mechanoids and chef-like humanoids!
