OBLIVIMON AND INVISIMON

So, it took a while for the Perfect stage of Espimon to finally be revealed, and it's much cooler, obviously. A giant flying saucer with eyes, metal tentacles, and nothing in its cockpit dome but a visible brain?! That's just about one of the coolest machine-like Digimon they've introduced in forever! And it even has little detachable one-eyed UFO drones! Awesome!!! It's so cool, I wish it was connected more to Vademon and Ebemon than the odd, awkwardly designed Espimons. So cool, I also wish it had been an Ultimate level, and it certainly has the epic feel of one, doesn't it?

It sounds pretty threatening, too; it captures Digimon, absorbs their memories into its brain or "biological storage," then discards them with permanent amnesia, just like a classic Alien Abduction scenario. And when it needs to defend itself, it can apparently grab an enemy and overload their mind with "trash data" from its memory collection. COOL.

RATING:

So...what the heck kind of followup is "Invisimon" supposed to be? Huh? We went from an awesome freaky thought-eating UFO brain to a robot superhero action figure with a pet airplane? Invisimon looks kind of like Optimus Prime with softer, more rounded edges, accompanied by a little stealth bomber jet with eyes, and its main gimmick is stealth. That thing? Really? If it were just the jet, that would make sense, but the garish design does not scream "sneak tactics" whatsoever...and what's even the theme here? What happened to this line being space suits and a spaceship? This has no business being the Ultimate stage for these guys, sorry. An alternative Perfect, maybe.
