ENTRY 06: APPENDAGE AMALGAM!
It may be a horror themed set, but this is the first horror TYPE creature card we've seen, and it's also an Enchantment Creature, which was also true of the Fear of Lost Teeth, meaning this counts as both a creature and an enchantment card, which is usually just a spell that hangs around indefinitely, usually not also being a monster.
I'm not entirely positive what the logic is behind this entity also being an enchantment, but it's a great looking Horror, surreal and alien as "Horror" ought to be whenever it gets to be a noun. The Appendage Amalgam has a body that's just kind of a faceless lump of flesh, shaped a bit like a headless torso that's bent over towards the viewer, or maybe unintentionally like a giant nose. You see it, right? Just a big fat human nose? But then it has siz pallid human arms sprouting out of it, plus four giant prickly black insect-like legs, plus a few small chitinous looking tentacle things. If I had to come up with any sort of critique, it's that the name implies something a little less symmetrical, with perhaps an even more ecclectic collection of arms and legs, but that's really more a critique with the name than with the design. The design is perfect as-is, and I just might have come up with something slightly different to call it.
I like its flavor text, because it says it moves like a spider but without the "skittering grace," and I'm glad we're acknowledging that spiders are graceful. The rest informs us that it "scuttles to the sound of mucus-covered fingers," so I like knowing it's also slimy. Or...is the noselike appearance not accidental, and this is a big, mucusy blind nose with a bunch of arms and legs? Either way it's a lovably unwholesome looking thing, with the precise set of vibes I would accept as a Silent Hill monster, and I am in fact very picky about what I compare to Silent Hill vibes. I don't just hand those out like free candy. Appendage Amalgam could have been in the original Silent Hill right between guys like Hanged Scratcher and Night Flutter.
As for why the Amalgam lets you look at the top card in your library, I don't know. Canonically your cards are just the spells you know how to cast, like your deck is basically your wizard brain, but sometimes a card can do things with the deck just because that card is conceptually a master thief or something, so either Appendage Amalgam can reach into your very subconscious and pluck out one of your memories, or it's like a raccoon and simply won't keep its grabby grimy little hands off your stuff.
And they're boogery hands!?! NO!!! D:<
