Gouging Fire

We're into the final few paradox pokemon with this fire/dragon variation on Entei. No longer just a big shaggy catdog(?) but a big shaggy catdog that's also, somehow, a Styracosaurus, the head weighed down by a huge golden shield-like crest covered in outwardly curving blades. It's a neat idea, and overall I think the head looks pretty cool, but I already found Entei the most cluttered of the legendary beasts and this is quite a bit clutterier.

Gouging Fire not only adds the massive dinosaur crest, but folds Entei's jaggedy wings together into fewer, more upright jagged wing things, changes the iron band things into scales, adds giant claws, adds big yellow tufts of hair, and adds jagged neon green body stripes. It's SO much clutterier! I get (by now anyway) that they're going for not just "dinosaurs" but a "glam rock" kind of motif, which is funny and cool, but I'm not sure that combo shows through here, or works harmoniously with Entei's base elements.

By this point in this generation, the game itself has also had dialog stating that these are ancient precursor Pokemon and other, different dialog stating that these are definitely current Pokemon from another timeline. I kind of like the mystery, but there's a little too much ambiguity in the franchise by now, far too many open-ended questions they never explore further. Yes, it's fun to get NEW mysteries with each game, but if they're always going to keep adding more, it might be nice if they simultaneously wrapped up outstanding ones, right? If you're going to bring in these maybe-prehistoric, maybe-parallel, maybe-something-else Pokemon, you could maybe meanwhile tell us more about what was up with Dynamaxes or Ultrabeasts.
