Mega "Floette"
It finally happened. Over a decade after Pokemon X & Y, players can finally obtain the unique "Eternal Flower" Floette that was part of the game's storyline, which you can refresh yourself on with the original review if you need.
In ZA, this special Floette becomes central to a new plotline, and it can sort of Mega Evolve, by which I mean the Floette itself doesn't mega evolve, but its flower does. It's a long story, but the flower comes to possess a sentience all its own and fuses with the machine Az created to resurrect the dead, becoming a kaiju-size hostile plant creature, the Biollante of Pokemon:
You unfortunately cannot obtain this rad flower-monster as a Pokemon, but Eternal Flower Floette's playable mega form still represents the flower absorbing all the available mega energy, becoming three huge, eerie black and red petals with a longer, segmented red stem. The stem is also wrapped tightly around Floette, rather than Floette holding it like a parasol, though the little fairy is posed kind of like it's "comforting" the flower, which is adorable.
If we still judge this concept as "Mega Floette," I already give it a 5/5 for being a fun twist on the base concept that happens to also look very cool. But what it most literally represents is a mega evolution of just the flower into its own entity, Floette merely along for the ride and presumably still contributing some fairy-powers. Judging it on those merits, the mutated blossom itself is easily up there among my new favorite "Pokemon," as weird and cool as any of the Ultrabeasts.
