Kakamon was first featured in the same v-pet as Fujamon, and is only the second child-stage Digimon to ever be a primate, after Koemon. I guess that was probably overdue, and people who really love monkeys are likely to prefer the realistic cuteness of this one. It's also pretty obligatory to have one as a basic "starter" Digimon for Shambala, given the importance of cute little golden-furred monkeys to Chinese culture; it's pretty much a Digimon designed entirely to evolve towards Gokuwmon. I will say something about it lacks the feeling of a Digimon, despite the fact that it is made up of elements that plenty of other Digimon have shared. I guess it could just too easily fit into any anime in need of a cute mascot.
