Halloween 2025: Michael's Finds!

Written by Jonathan Wojcik

Mermaid Bust

Finally!! We've seen plenty of Halloween mermaids, but they're usually skeletons or otherwise undead, which can make anything Halloween anyway. I advocated for alive-mermaids as viable seasonal monsters for years, and at long last, we've got a "scary" mermaid that doesn't need to be a corpse. I especially like that her arms connect to her body by fleshy membranes, a logical but seldom-seen mer-person characteristic.

Reading Skeleton

There are many, many figurines of skeletons doing everyday things, including skeletons reading books, but this one's holding its own skull to read the book balanced on its headless neck. Haha! Silly skeleton! That's not how you read!!!

Giant Rubber Joro Spider!

Big oversized spiders pour out every year, but this one is specifically labeled as a "joro" spider; the giant Japanese orb weaver that's been making headlines as it spreads across the warmer states of the USA. It's not exactly accurate, and probably a repaint of some other spider, but I admire the thought; it might even be one of the first Halloween spiders I've seen that reference any particular species other than a widow!

Zombie Clown Squirrel

This is an oversized rubber squirrel that's also a zombie that's also a clown. You'd think it would be part of a set of other zombie clowns or zombie clown animals, and you'd think if this is the first one they would start off with maybe a circus monkey, so I'm glad they avoided the easy route known as "surrounding context." I'm glad this is just an isolated zombie clown squirrel in a vacuum.

Rubber Sphinx Cat

...Well, maybe this is also supposed to be a clown, kind of? It has a pure white face at least, though nothing else is clownly about this undead hairless feline.

Wraith Statue

Just a really cool looking figure, shrouded in flowing black cloth that hides its face, with nothing underneath the gap down the front. Its arm-crossing pose also looks exactly, kind of exclusively like someone who's just sort of fed up and disappointed with you.

Piano-Playing Doll

This is a little creepy doll with long black hair and solid shiny black eyes that plays her own little bitty piano!! That's SO cute! Is it even dangerous?! Maybe playing her little piano is the only thing she wants :(

Skeleton Monkey

I overlooked this one before our skeletons post! Oh no! It's an actually decent plastic monkey skeleton, fairly accurate with nasty big primate fangs, but they also gave it a bendable tail that's still fully furred. I also like that the bones are subtly a cool tone of grey compared to a lot of other plastic bones.

Potted Partial Skeleton

This is a headless, limbless, pure black metal skeleton sticking out of a flower pot. The intention is probably that you can use it as the beginning of a spooky gothic floral arrangement, but that would make too much sense of it. I like it better exactly as-is.

Jekyll & Hyde Bust

A cool, detailed full color desktop bust of Jekyll and Hyde...at the same time! Split down the middle, and for some reason stitched together, which kind of implies that this isn't even "symbolic" but that the two have actually been permanently fused this way. How though? I mean, the stitches imply this was a surgical process. So did he get split completely down the middle, and then only one side was turned into Hyde mode, and then they were delicately reconnected, vein by vein?? And they just stay this way now? Or do they still transform, but now it always alternates? Sometimes he's left-Hyded and sometimes he's right-Hyded??

Huge Carnivorous Plants!

Michael's had some of the first Halloween Carnivorous Plants we ever reviewed here, which at the time had "heads" kind of resembling modified plastic watermelons. These are almost the same design, except I think they're a bit taller, and the mouth head pods are now a more original looking custom sculpt, nicely detailed with veins and ridges straight off an Audrey II. Maybe these have been around a while, and I was just overlooking them?

The "new" (but maybe not) plants even come in smaller form, attached to wreathes alongside more realistic fly-trap leaves!

Big Bad Wolf on a Toilet

This is a figurine of a wolf, dressing up as Red Riding Hood's grandma, while it sits on a toilet. Why are toilet-sitting monster figures so common? I don't know. At least this is a new toilet-sitting monster species I guess.

Miniature Skeleton Clown

Small hanging skeletons are often dressed in costumes, but usually not as "fully body" as this clown, with only its skull and its extremities exposed. I don't know, I just found that kind of satisfying I guess.

"Apocalyptic Cockroach"

That's the official name for this item, and I should be more excited by a new giant rubber cockroach for Halloween, but sadly I'm a bit mixed. These are stuck in a "dead" pose with dangling limbs that you can't reposition, which isn't as fun as a giant roach that looks like it's alive and crawling around. There's a loop on top for hanging it, so I guess the idea is that this roach is being sold as grossout "food," or something along those lines? A very nice sculpt otherwise, good size and very good color, especially the wings fading to yellow-orange at the tips, but how about a happier, healthier cockroach next time! At least put some wires in those legs so we can choose how they're positioned!

Dead Rubber Bat

Another "hanging dead animal," this one is a rubber bat with a bit of intestine visible through a wound on its stomach. Gruesome! A bit better than the cockroach, just because there are plenty of alive-bat decorations you can turn to, or you can always interpret this as a very sleepy zombie-bat.

Witchy Skelefrog Figurine

An adorable little figure of a happy frog or toad skeleton, with a witch hat! Very nicely detailed, even if it doesn't really follow anuran skeletal anatomy. It shouldn't have a full ribcage like that! At least the skull looks great, REALLY close to the real thing.

Child-Eating Witch

There seem to be a number of fairy tale items this year, like the red riding hood wolf. This one is a witch with a couple of kids in her cauldron, gleefully adding salt and pepper. I guess it might be a reference to Hansel and Gretel, even if nothing quite like this actually happens.

Croaking Toad

Another toad! This larger plastic one has light-up eyes and a flapping mouth, and when triggered, it says things like "happy halloween" in a toad voice. Use your imagination.

The Toad Queen!

One more amphibian from Michael's! This little statue depicts a fully fleshed, albeit jet black happy toad, with red lipstick and a golden crown. Another fairy tale being I guess!

Animated Plant!

Another classic style Audrey, but this is only the second or third animated one I think we've seen!

Crystal Snails!

Interesting concept, here. Snails, flecked with moss, and with crystals bursting out of their broken shells. Maybe they're meant to look like they're stone garden ornaments, and don't necessarily represent "living" snails with moss and crystals on them, but you know I disagree with that.

Skeleton Pet Walker

A very cute little concept; a plastic human skeleton, plastic dog skeleton, and a "leash" (string) to set them up like pet and owner. Also comes in cat form! Basically a quick repackaging of existing items, but a fun one regardless.

MOSSY CREATURES

ANOTHER SNAIL FOR SNAILLOWEEN!!! "Mossy Creatures" come in either a skeleton frog or skeleton snail figurine flocked with a bunch of green fuzz, each posing on a stone base beside a tiny little human skull. The snail is a unique design among the year's many snails, some of which I actually haven't shown you yet, but trust me, this one is a little different! Most of them have had normal snail bodies with spooky shells, or a bone snail body with a spooky shell as we saw a few reviews ago, but this one has a bone snail body and normal snail shell, unless there's a big skull face on the opposite side? I haven't seen these in person. In fact, at the time of this writing, they were only listed on the website as online order or something you can have delivered to your nearest Michael's store...and you don't actually get to pick whether you receive the frog or the snail. No disrespect to the frog, but I just can't afford that gamble for a whopping $15 shipped.

Animated Tea Kettle!

Maybe one of the coolest things at Michael's in 2025, this black tea kettle crawls around on eight spidery finger-bone legs! I am loving this trend of putting spider legs on just whatever we feel like! More of this, please! Spider legs on EVERYTHING! I even took a video of this one, and it trundles around SO cutely as it plays a spooky, kooky little tune!
