Halloween 2025: Spirit Finds!
Written by Jonathan Wojcik
Gruesome Pumpkins
This year, Spirit has two different tough plastic pumpkin creatures with mouthfuls of gnarly yellow teeth, and inky black alien-like eyes; not just holes! They're convex! That means those are eyeballs in there! One is gnawing on some intestines, and the other on some human fingers. The hungry brothers."Monster" Head
I think this is meant to talk or make noise, but didn't work anymore? It's the size and quality of a fake Jack O' Lantern, but it's some kind of wrinkly, earless, grey-green ogre-like head with sharp teeth, reptilian nostrils and solid green eyes. I do like a "generic monster" now and then, especially when it's only a head.Spooky Teddy Bear
There's been a few spooky creepy teddy bears lately, but this is always my favorite kind; one that doesn't need to look more "menacing," but still innocent and sweet with a beaten-up, stitchy design for a slightly more goth feel. The single button eye and embroidered "broken" heart imply something thrown away that just wants to be loved again, but as a Halloween bear, there's no telling how harshly it would react to further rejection!Zombie Raccoon
Another addition to Spirit's long line of rubber "zombie" animals, this raccoon sits up on its hind legs despite the fact that its midsection is completely gone, reduced down to nothing but a sturdy spinal column holding it up!Boo-Kini Ghost
Not what they call it, but obviously what it's called, an adorable sheet ghost all dressed up for the beach with a pumpkin color skirt, pumpkin drink cup and a candy corn bikini top, extra cute precisely because there is no reason for it on a being that's already a cloth sheet.Zombie Opossum!
Some opossum appreciation, too! This one is more subtle, just snarling and red eyed with a bloodstained mouth. The colors could be a bit better and the sculpt feels SLIGHTLY off from the real animal, maybe a little bit more ratlike, but I'd say it's still recognizably an opossum, which everybody loves.Mummy Figurine
I just thought this was a cute one.Candollabra
A three pronged candelabra, but each light is housed in a broken-open baby doll head. Very entertaining.Fractured Demon Skull
An interesting little plastic prop; a humanlike skull with a single red horn, the other "broken off" along with the majority of the skull itself, or maybe most of the skull is supposed to look buried? The effect is just the upper half of a devilish skull crookedly poking up from the ground, and as simple as it is I think it's really cool! Really offers something a bit different!Cyclops Biskull
A large latex prop of two skulls fused together, sharing one eye socket, which is the also the only socket with an eyeball still in it! A gleaming red eye that still looks very much alive; this whole object feels like it would be some sort of minor flying enemy from Doom or Castlevania.Baby Doll Wall Hanger
This is just a broken doll head mounted on a lacy golden frame, with baby doll limbs dangling from chains. Fun, although I have to say these baby doll head items are kind of muscling in on the many DIY crafts people make and sell from actual old baby dolls, which tends to have a spookier effect as-is without the need for artificially painted cracks and stains, really.Medusa's Stuff
Not Medusa stuff, no, but Medusa's stuff, as near as I can tell. An entire small end-cap shelf at Spirit this year just says "MEDUSA" on it, but doesn't sell anything that actually features Medusa herself. Rather, it displays a number of snake themed decorations, a framed picture of a snake with deer antlers, a deer skull with roses growing out of it and another snake winding through its eye sockets, an hourglass, a golden crescent moon sculpture with an eye and more deer antlers, and a wall scroll that says "Gaze at the World, Unafraid, For We Are Most Powerful In Our True Nature."The only conclusion you can draw here is that these are supposed to be things Medusa herself would own, including her favorite inspirational quote I guess.
The Medusa collection also includes this hollow skull formed entirely out of little green snakes, though at my local Spirit, these are tucked away on a lower shelf and relatively easy to miss.
Wall Heart
A wall plaque of a blackish heart with white veins and aortas, surrounded by various flowers. Just thought it was rad looking!Dual-faced Severed Head
I love a prop that implies so much background lore at just a glance. This is a fake severed head of a woman with two faces; one human, one reptilian, their hair twined together into a single braid they're hanging from. They do not at all appear to be dead, however, the human face screaming as her lizardy twin sister licks at her cheek. All pretty gnarly and disturbing, I have to say! There would have to be an entire horror tale leading up to the moment we're now seeing; maybe the second face is a manifestation of something evil in her soul, maybe they were just born that way by some weird curse, maybe some sort of ritual or magical wish backfired on her, who knows! All we know is that they're stuck with each other even in death. Nasty!WAYS YOU CAN SUPPORT THIS SITE!
