The Five Best Things at Michael's 2026
(And an Extra Thing From 2025)

Haha, I made a 2026 banner after all! Are you proud of me?!? It's mandragoras!!

I've distilled Michael's Halloween content for this year down to only a handful of things, but they're all pretty good! They also have a couple of good things that aren't on here, because they're skeletons, and new species of skeletons always get their own article post, so be patient!! Hold your HORSES!!!!

ICE CREAM CLOWN

This is available on the official Michael's website, but I haven't seen any on actual Michael's shelves. It's a resin figure of a free standing double-scoop ice cream cone that is also a clown, with a mischievous little clown face on it. Its beady eyes, surrounded by four-pointed blue stars, look extra cute on the same plane as its nose, and the toothy smile strikes just the right whimsical-threatening balance we all strive for. At roughly forty dollars though, I'd expect this to be at least a meter tall, but I'm pretty sure it's only inches tall.

SIR DUKE OF LORD BABOON I GUESS

I for-real stopped dead in my tracks and wheeze-laughed when I saw this, and it normally takes a lot for me to genuinely laugh out loud. So maybe I was just really tired, or maybe you would feel the same if you were unexpectedly confronted with a fake gothic painting of a baboon in a fancy floral-printed suit sipping wine in a swarm of moths. Is a baboon... spooky?" Is it a Halloween Animal? Why is he apparently such a refined gentleman? Who painted a portrait of him, and where would this portrait be hung??

The only sour note is that, in times past, you could be sure this was clipart photoshopped together by some poor underpaid image editor. In 2026, chances are at least equally high that it was spat out by OpenAI at the request of the same person who used to be underpaying their image editors, and finally just fired them all. I only say "equally high" because, while Michael's is selling some obviously AI-generated things, AI generation is already at a point of making much more "polished"-looking images than this. This is actually still at a "halfhearted photoshop" level of quality you might only see less of and less of in the grim years to come.

MINI MUSHROOMS!

My babies are back again this year, and the first I spotted were a set of delightfully tiny ones you can purchase for fairy gardens and floral arrangements! They're all the same cool looking mushroom, resembling a scaly flaky little amanita with a single eyeball sunken in the brim of the cap, but each is a different color!

I even used these for their intended purpose, adding them to the decorative arrangement I made of the other, larger resin Deathcaps I bought a couple years ago, which are all staked into the same block of floral foam I covered over with dried moss.

EYEBALL "RAFFLESIA"

This is one of the coolest looking large-size Halloween "houseplants" I've seen in a while, each sporting two four-petaled, meaty red flowers with eyeball centers. Each flower is a pretty chunky, sturdy and fully painted plastic sculpt, too, on a nice thick bendable stalk! I'd love one of these, but by that I mean one of the flowers, by itself, which I'd maybe pay up to $15 for if I'm being generous. Unfortunately, they only come in these fully potted setups, and Michael's thinks what you're seeing here is worth, uh...over eighty dollars. Kay.

MIRROR BIRDS

These come in two sizes, two slightly different designs, but they're both the same idea: golden (or maybe bronze?) birds with grimy gold-framed mirrors instead of heads. That's weird! It's also a perfect design concept for a magical construct! A mirror-headed metal bird is totally a living sentient artifact you find in an evil wizard's treasure horde, and maybe it's a benevolent little friend, grateful to be rescued, utilizing its magical scrying powers to help you escape the dungeon! Maybe it can show you a few minutes into the future, warning you of the various dangers around every corner?? ...On the other hand, they are birds, and birds, I say with the utmost love and affection, cannot always be trusted.

FAKE SNAPDRAGON SEEDPODS!

One of the best things ever year at Michael's is that section full of relatively inexpensive fake plant supplies, which for a few years now has regularly included the same artificial fly-traps and pitcher plants, but this year adds these great oversized snapdragon pods! They've long been a popular viral photo subject for their resemblance to rotten heads, but these foam imitations are a bit larger than the real thing, sold in a bunch of three with some black fabric leaves for good measure.

A 2025 STRAGGLER

So, here's something I meant to review last year, but discovered just slightly too late to fit into any of 2025's posts! I've sat on this one for over 300 something days! Another thing I only ever saw (and had to order) online, it might be the single best eyeball-rose creature I've ever laid eyes upon thus far, since the stem is a spinal columb and it has skeleton arms. It also appears to be rolling its eye, one bony hand on its "hip" and the other doing an "oh, please!" kind of gesture. So much personality! They just cannot deal with your nonsense right now! To make up for reviewing this one late, here are the rest of the redundant photos I took a whole year ago:
