Mega Feraligatr
This is a pretty unique one! Mega evolution gives Feraligatr a secondary dragon typing, additional red spikes on its arms, and turns its second "dorsal fin" (what they officially call it, apparently) into a huge, red, jagged-edged hood hanging off the back of its neck. It's confusing at first glance, until the hood flips forward:
Fully covering its head, the red hood thingy is actually like a biological mask or helmet resembling a huge Totodile skull, while its spikier new arms interlock to form the "lower jaw" and deliver a gigantic "bite." This is, interestingly, said to restore the "more optimized biting power" it had as a totodile, I guess because totodile was like 30% head and jaws. The huge masklike "fin" is also said to vent excess body heat while mega evolved, like the crests and frills of many real animals, which is a nice attention to detail. With the mask closed, you can also get a better look at a pair of strange, red horns on its sides, resembling totodile's original arms.
My only criticism is that its forelimbs don't truly interlock with the giant head. They're far too small, and are replaced with a different model altogether for the animation, which looks a bit weird. I guess it's just symbolic, but they could have played around a bit more with the proportions to make it work. Otherwise, this is a very creative and interesting mega, with the highly impractical absurdity that makes a lot of the classic megas so memorable. They are, after all, a sort of "overclocked" Pokemon evolution. They should be a little too much.
